There is a special day in which the whole world turns blue for a while. This day is the 2nd of April – the World Autism Awareness Day. Tricity turned blue on Sunday as well.
Autism? It happens!
Probably the most significant event connected with the World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD) took place in Gdynia. A huge crowd gathered at the front of city hall in order to march through the city. The blue parade was accompanied by Boarder Guard’s orchestra, rally cars, and motorcycles. After a while the crowd reached the concert stage near the musical theatre in Gdynia.
Attract people, raise awareness
The main focus of the event is to attract passerby’s, to spread the information about the disorder and to raise awareness. The organizers achieve these goals by creating a family event. There are concerts, artistic acts, performances as well as lectures and exhibitions. Autism? It happens! is a special event gathering those who are close to the subject of autism as well as those who learn about it during the event.
The objective was definitely met. A lot of people gathered at the place to see performances, talk with specialists or take part in additional activities.

Bands and performers attracted additional audience. As a result, a lot of people could come, learn about Autism and familiarize themselves with the subject.

Plans for 2018
In our conversation with the Autyzm Gdynia organization we asked about plans for the future. The observance of WAAD in Tricity is going to grow and become more international. The organizers plan to invite specialists in the area from different countries. As a result, the conference will no longer be just a local initiative.
