Tricity welcomes spring term students

Universities in Tricity organized special events for students from different lands who came to study here. Tricity News had the pleasure to be at the meeting for Erasmus students of University of Gdansk.

International students in Tricity

The universities in the area of Gdansk, Sopot and Gdynia welcome more and more international students each year. University of Gdansk, Gdansk University of Technology, Medical University of Gdansk as well as Gdynia Maritime University are within the foreign students’ interest. There are more than 2000 people from different parts of the world who study in the area. Students come to Tricity on the basis of many international agreements one of which is Erasmus+ programme.

Erasmus+ at University of Gdansk

University of Gdansk has recently organized a meeting for students who came to study in Tricity on the basis of Erasmus+ programme. It is an international exchange of students between the countries and universities cooperating within the project. More than 60 students took part in the welcoming event. Apart from learning about the university, they could enjoy regional, traditional dishes and the Kashubian culture.

The new students represent Austria, Denmark, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Greece, Netherlands, Italy, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain as well as Turkey. In this semester this group will become an important part of academic society in Tricity. Moreover, they will have an opportunity to travel around Poland as well as become familiar with the Polish culture.

Students from different corners of the world

Apart from the group participating in Erasmus+ programme, many other nationalities choose Tricity. According to the International Office of the University of Gdansk, there are some 430 students from non-EU countries. They come mainly from Belarus, Ukraine, Lithuania, Russia or China. Some of them however come from very distant lands like Bangladesh, India, Colombia, Nepal, Oman, Somalia or Vietnam. What’s interesting, Chinese students come to Tricity to study Polish philology. This is possible due to bilateral agreements between the University of Gdansk and many universities in China. The most popular fields of study among international students however, are International Business and Administration.
