The authorities have issued storm and flood warnings for the area of Tricity. Heavy storm on the Baltic Sea started on Tuesday afternoon and it has caused a reverse flow of waters putting the area in danger of flooding.
Storm warnings
On Tuesday evening the local meteorological offices issued a warning for the area of Tricity. According to the information, the coast of Poland got into the influence of a low pressure area. As a result, big masses of arctic air were to hit the area causing heavy winds and storm as well as a reverse flow of river waters.
The authorities warned the inhabitants about the wind up to 110 km/h. The forecasts predict the strong wind to affect the area until the morning of January the 3rd.
Storm
There is currently a storm in the strength of some 10/11 Beaufort degrees. The waves on the open sea can reach up to 11 meters of height. The wind blows from the Northern directions.
Reverse flow
A strong, Northern wind is blowing the waters from the Baltic Sea towards the land. As a result, huge parts of beaches along the coast are now under water. Additionally, this affects the rivers where water levels have increased significantly.
Avoid the danger
Strong wind can break branches and trees. It can damage free-standing objects at balconies. Additionally, the winds can affect the electrical installations causing occasional blackouts.
While walking, it would be wise to stay very cautious while passing trees and high buildings. Especially if they are in a poor condition. If you own a balcony, please secure the free-standing item. Those owning cars will do well not parking them under trees.
