After years of absence in the international competitions, Seahawks Gdynia made their debut in CEFL on last Sunday. The team from Tricity entered the Central European Football League Cup in a great style. In their debut match they won against Budapest Cowbells 28:18.
Big hit from the start
Seahawks entered the game very well pressing Hungarian champions. As a result they opened the score quickly. Pawel Henicz caught a very good pass from Joseph Bradley. The touchdown brought a lot of joy to the stadium in Gdynia. After a good PAT Seahawks Gdynia were leading by 7 points. Cowbells were in shock and they tried to chase the score. Towards the end of the first quarter the guests decided for a field goal attempt. Karol Mazajlo from Seahawks blocked the ball and the team from Tricity was still in the lead.
Hosts dominated the second quarter
In the second quarter Seahawks Gdynia continued their good performance. The Black&Yellows began with an interception which helped them to come back closer to the Hungarian end zone. Just a moment later the fans could celebrate a touchdown by Jan Domagala. Both the offense and defense teams of Seahawks performed very well. As a result the hosts were controlling the second quarter of the match.
After another very good pass from Joey Bradley, Pawel Henicz entered the end zone gaining his second touchdown of the match. Good PAT and the excited crowd of supporters saw 21:0 at the score board. His second touchdown got Jan Domagala as well. He forced his way through the guest’s defense adding yet another 6 points. Unfailing Portalski set the score at 28:0. These last points seemed to have awaken Cowbells and they scored their first touchdown of the game. Matias Carter caught the ball and delivered it into the end zone. The kicker Kamilo Fora wasn’t lucky though and his PAT didn’t fit between the posts. Thanks to this the fans from Tricity were enjoying the break seeing 28:6 at the score board.
The game leveled
Cowbells definitely heard a motivation speech during the break. Which resulted in their opening the third quarter very well. What’s more, their efforts ended in the hosts’ end zone giving guests some hope. Cowbells ambitiously wanted to gain two extra points, but their effort was unsuccessful. The atmosphere was heating up. In addition two players engaged into a quarrel. Due to the decision of the referees, Kevin Nagy from Cowbells and Jakub Mazan from Seahawks had to leave the field.
Seahawks still controlled the field
Despite the growing hopes of the guests, Seahawks were still controling the match. Good defense wasn’t allowing for much danger in the hosts’ end zone. Cowbells managed to score one more touchdown towards the end of the match. This however could not change the final result. Seahawks Gdynia were much better in the game and they won 28:18.
Seahawks Gdynia in CEFL Cup final
After winning in Gdynia, Seahawks are now facing the chance of reaching for their first international trophy. On the 9th of June they will play in the final of CEFL cup. Their rivals will be either SBB Vukovi Beograd from Serbia or Sakarya Tatankalari from Turkey. The semi-final is on the 12th of May.
Next match in LFA
In the meantime however Seahawks are still competing in the national league. On the 5th of May Seahawks will host Warsaw Sharks.
