Recommendations for 42nd Polish Film Festival – Part 1

In Entertainment, Gdynia

Main Competition at 42nd Polish Film Festival has many amazing films to offer as always. I would like to recommend you those which already had their premieres. Firstly, I want to mention The Art of Loving. The Story of Michalina Wislocka” – Polish biographical film nominated for the Golden Lions Award.

Story of Michalina Wislocka

Michalina Wislocka was a well-known Polish doctor who wrote the bestseller book The Art of Loving”. This love guide was published in 1978. It has sold in over 7 million copies and has revolutionized the sexual life of the country. For example the book mentioned pregnancy prevention methods. Additionally, Michalina Wislocka worked on infertility treatment and birth control. She died of a heart attack in 2005 in Warsaw.

Plot of the film

The film unveils Wislocka’s story in different decades. It shows her private, controversial life – a love triangle and a romance with a married man. However, the main issue is her battle with ignorance and stereotypes. Fighting for women’s rights is also an important subject in the film. Her story is an inspirational portrait of a determined revolutionary. Her bravery and experiences led to the launch of the book.

Director and cast

The director of the film is Maria Sadowska – Polish singer and scriptwriter. Magdalena Boczarska plays the main role of Michalina Wislocka. She reflects the changes that have taken place in the heroine during 3 decades very well. I believe that she has a chance to win the Main Female Role Award at this year’s Festival. The film also includes other outstanding actors for example Piotr Adamczyk, Eryk Lubos, Justyna Wasilewska and Borys Szyc.

Make sure to check out this film during the Festival!
