ONICO Gdynia half marathon won by Kenyan

About 6000 people from 21 countries took part in the second edition of ONICO Gdynia half marathon on Sunday. Hillary Kiptum Maiyo Kimaiyo from Kenya repeated his achievement from the previous edition and passed the finish line first.

21 km in just above one hour

A half marathon is a distance of 21 km and 97,5 m. The world record on this distance is 58:23, but the best runners in Gdynia weren’t much worse. The winner of the event, Hillary Kiptum Maiyo Kimaiyo crossed the finish line with time 1:02:55. The second was Mengistu Zelalem Gezahegne from Ethiopia who ended the run in 1:03:21. The fastest among Polish runners was Tomasz Grycko, who got across the finish line after 1:05:20 after the start. Tomasz has beaten his personal life record in in this distance category.

The ladies were strong as well

Among the approximate 1600 ladies who took part in the run, the fastest was Fatiha Benchatki from Morocco. She ended the race in 1:12:23. This result is now a female record in the ONICO Gdynia half marathon. The second was Moraa Oigo from Kenya and the third Skrove Falch from Norway. The fastest Polish lady, Dominika Nowakowska came in the sixth place with a time of 1:16:01.

Prizes of the ONICO Gdynia half marathon

The first five runners who crossed the finish line won cash prizes. First prize was an amount of 6000 PLN. All participants received medals for finishing the race.

A Popular Sport in Tricity

Running is a very popular sport in Tricity. Runs are organized every once in a while and thousands of running enthusiasts take part in them. Additionally, thousands of citizens of Tricity take active part in supporting runners in their efforts.

In the following month, two major running events will take place in Tricity: Runmageddon Recriut and 3rd Gdansk Marathon.
