New inhabitant in Gdansk ZOO – a unique world phenomenon

In General, Tourism

The zoo in Gdansk has recently witnessed the hatching of an adorable baby penguin. The new dweller is a representative of a unique species of penguins – the only one that lives at the southern coast of Africa, the Spheniscus demersus, widely known as the African penguin. Sadly, this kind is an endangered species. However, this is not the only reason why the baby penguin is so remarkable.

Albino baby penguin

The baby African penguin is an albino! Cases of albinism among penguins and other birds are extremely rare both in nature and menageries, which makes our baby penguin a unique world phenomenon. Thanks to the courtesy of Gdansk zoo Tricity news is proud to present photos of this sweet creature.

Under special care

The employees of the zoo are taking good care of the new African penguin as the albino birds are more sensitive and prone to diseases of skin and eyes. Let’s hope the new inhabitant of Gdansk zoo will grow fast and stay healthy.
