After a week of leadership of Jagiellonia Bialystok in Polish Ekstraklasa league, Lechia was in front of the opportunity to re-gain the leading in the table. Jagiellonia lost painfully at their own stadium with Legia Warsaw 1:4. After this event, Jagiellonia had the same amount of points as Lechia, but the team from Gdansk was yet before their game with Wisła Płock.
High hopes from the very beginning
Lechia Gdansk had strong chances to win the match against Wisła Płock. First of all, Wisła is at the bottom of the table, having a prospect of fighting for remaining in Ekstraklasa. The other factor, was that Lechia played at their own stadium, the amber – Energa Stadium Gdansk. With their 12th man behind their backs, the team had high hopes and wanted to re-gain the leadership in Ekstraklasa.
First Half for Wisła
During the first half Wisla Plock showed a huge fighting spirit and already in 11th minute they could have gained the lead. It happened though in 28th minute, when Merebaszwili scored. During the first half Wisła Płock had some more chances and it seemed that high hopes may end up unfulfilled.
Changes in Lechia
After making some changes in the squad, Lechia’s performance improved. This resulted in increased amount of scoring opportunities and a goal scored in 59th minute by Kuswik. Second half was dominated by Lechia in every possible aspect and it is also visible with the score. In 81st minute of the game Kuswik added one more goal for Lechia to his name and the game ended with thea result 2:1 for Lechia.
Important 3 points
After obtaining those 3 points Lechia came back to the first position in the league. The team from Gdansk has now 33 points. It is 3 points more than second Jagiellonia Bialystok and 8 points more than Legia Warsaw, which is defending the championship. The next game Lechia will play in Gdansk against Gornik Leczna. The game will take place at November 28th at 6p.m.
