Zaglebie Sosnowiec – Lechia Gdansk
Lechia Gdansk secured one more week as a leader of Ekstraklasa after a difficult 0:1 away win on Saturday against Zaglebie Sosnowiec. The hosts are the last in the championship. Lechia won thanks to an early goal after Lukasik’s free-kick in the eighth minute that keeper Hrosso couldn’t save.
On the 23rd minute, the “woodwork” show in Sosnowiec started. Polczak headed into the bar after a free kick. Right after that, Lechia conducted a counter-attack that could have ended with a goal especially after Mygas lost the ball near Zaglebie’s box. Arak served Lukasik but the final shot was weak and easily saved by Hrosso.
Near the end of the first half came another scare for Lechia when Polczak headed towards Pawlowski. Only facing keeper Kuciak, Zaglebie’s forward could only shoot over the bar losing a great chance for the draw.
While Zaglebie had already seen a ball deflected by the bar in the first half, it was Lechia that saw this happening again in the 47th minute. Arak jumped higher than Zaglebie’s defender but he was only able to head straight into the bar.
In the 70th minute, another ball hit the bar. Mozdzen from outside of the box got a superb shot that only the woodwork could deflect. Kuciak would be completely unable to save this superb shot.

After 40 minutes without big chances, Gdynia’s team had some good opportunities in the final minutes of the first half. Janota forced keeper Forenc to a good save after a free kick in the 42nd minute and, right after that, it was Zaglebie’s keeper that anticipated himself to Jankowski to avoid the 0:1.
The last minute of the first half meant another scare for Lubin’s team when Poreba almost made an own goal by heading the ball against his own bar. The woodwork would be again in action on the 59th minute to stop a superb free kick by Starzynski.
Starzynski tried the free-kick again in the 64th minute. This time though, the shot was too wide. The great chance for Lubin’s team appeared on the dying seconds of the match when Steinbors successfully opposed a shot by substitute Szysz that had everything to dictate Arka’s defeat.
After the pause for the national teams’ games, Lechia entertains Piast Gliwice at home on Friday trying to get their second win in a row in the championship. On Saturday, Arka receives Slask Wroclaw in an attempt to distance themselves from the relegation places.
