St. Dominic’s Fair 2018
July 28, 2018 - August 19, 2018Free
On the 28th of July annual St. Dominic’s Fair begins in Gdansk. As always, this huge open-air trade event will attract millions of tourists.
Every year, about 1000 merchants, artists, and collectors take part in St. Dominic’s Fair. They come from different parts of Poland and the world. During 3 weeks of the event, everyone will find something interesting to explore. Visitors will find not only craft articles, vinyl CDs, jewelry, traditional Polish cuisine or souvenirs but also many other attractions like concerts. St. Dominic’s Fair is still one of the most popular outdoor events in Poland because of its history, atmosphere, and tradition.
The solemn opening ceremony refers to the fifteenth-century tower “squeaks” whose duty was to warn, greet distinguished guests and announce the closing hours of city gates. It will take place this Saturday at 12.00 in front of Arthus’ Court. St. Dominic’s Fair celebrates 758th anniversary this year, therefore the bugle call that will be played at the ceremony consists of 758 notes.
The event takes place in Gdansk’s Old Town. There are however specific locations for different attractions like Dlugi Targ, Targ Węglowy, Targ Rybny and Szeroka streets. The main page of the St. Dominic’s Fair contains a map and a guide to download, check it out here: http://jarmarkdominika.pl/en
