Solidarity of Arts 2017 – peace, society, diversity
August 13, 2017 - August 30, 2017PLN40 - PLN140
Peace is a keynote of the ninth editon of the festival. As the world wavers in it’s foundations, peace is a very fragile value. The attitude to refugees divided Europeans and became a test of solidarity. Gdańsk tradition obliges with the concern for the peace. During Solidarity of Arts 2017, everyone will enjoy peace in Gdansk.
Solidarity of Arts is a festival with artistic and ethical ambitions. In August – a symbolic month for Gdańsk – the festival is a feast of art and it provides meetings with authors representing various cultures, nations and fields. The festival is an attempt not only to enhance the sensitivity to the humanity’s fate in general but also our own empathy towards others. Therefore this year peace is a concept of the festival. Diversity is the second principle – diversity of interpretation, as means of the artistic expression and musical forms. A collaboration of artists is the third principle, which means collaboration on different levels from the institution and the organization through probation officers and community workers.
Music is an important part of Solidarity of Arts festival. During concerts we will hear classical music, jazz and also electronic. Musical interpretations of the idea of peace are covering the concepts of the lack of the peace in the world, through life stories of composers to peace as harmonious coexisting differences.
Something for eyesight
Visual artists will also be interpreting the idea of peace. Audio installations and the video, large-format projections, the exhibition and the artistic installation of paper will complete the composition. Why paper? The idea is to take the contemporary back in time to the Solidarity paper revolution – paper fliers and publications which allow for the forming of independent views were the main tool of the fight for dignity and freedom.
Location and program
The festival takes place in The European Solidarity Centre in Gdansk. The program of the festival is available here (in Polish).
