Meeting with History – Westerplatte on 1st – 3rd of September

On the 1st of September 1939 at 4:45 a.m. the Nazis began the attack on Westerplatte which triggered the Second World War. This part of Gdansk remained the historical monument and the memorial of the past events. During the upcoming weekend, Meeting with History will take place in this special, historical area.
The program includes historical reconstructions with pyrotechnics, field games as well as exhibitions of the militaria. Additionally, the visitors will enjoy museum stalls, trolley rides, guided tours, historical dioramas and a field kitchen. It is a great opportunity to commemorate this turning point in World’s history as well as to learn a lot about it.
First day (1st of September)
4:45 a.m. – the official celebration underneath Monument of the defenders of the coast
10 a.m. – the prayer and placing flowers (Victoriaschule tablet, 24 Kładki St.)
12 a.m.- church mass (Monument of the defenders of the Polish Post Office in Gdansk)
12 a.m. – 3 p.m.:
– field games on Westerplatte area organised by scouts
– exhibition of the militaria
– tours on Westerplatte area with PTTK guides
– trolley rides
– field kitchen (traditional military pea soup)
Second day (2nd of September)
12 a.m., 2 p.m., 4 p.m. – Historical reconstructions
