In this series of interviews, Wiktor Jodlowski from Talkersi meets with people who moved to Tricity. What were their experiences? What problems did they face when coming to Tricity? Also, how did they overcome the challenges of moving to Poland? They will share their story with you.
Meet Ruta
Ruta is a simple human being from Latvia. She is in Poland for a couple of months, but she already calls it her home. Ruta came to Poland after a headhunter contacted her and offered her a job. It is the first time she has ever been to Poland and she shares some of her experiences with us.
First days in Poland
First weeks were the most active for Ruta. She had to arrange her life in Tricity as a result, she got very familiar with the area. How did she deal with settling in here? She shares with use some interesting moments from the first days after coming to Tricity.
Communication issues
Though more and more people speak English in Poland, not all of them do. For example while Ruta ordered the internet connection, she asked for a person who speaks either English or Russian. However the installer who came to set up the internet spoke Polish only. It though wasn’t a big problem, as the man was very helpful. Additionally, the technology comes very helpful too. How about other places?
Helpful colleagues
The experience of Ruta shows, that once a foreigner has any issues, it is good to use the help of Polish friends. Polish people are very helpful and they will do their best to assist you with fixing the problems you may have.
Is it hard to get such friends? When you begin your work in Poland, be open to make friends among Polish people. It may also be a good idea to take part in some language exchange classes to expand the network of colleagues and make new friends. One of such opportunities is at Social English Night events organized by Talkersi.
