Both Arka Gdynia and Lechia Gdansk won their away matches in the 5th round of Ekstraklasa

Arka Gdynia got their first win in this season’s Ekstraklasa with a 1:3 victory over Wisla Plock. Kolev, Jankowski and Siemaszko scored for Yellow and Blues. In Zabrze, Lechia scored twice in the first half and climbed to third in Polish championship.

Wisla Plock – Arka Gdynia

Arka Gdynia won for the first time in this season’s Ekstraklasa 1:3 over Wisla Plock on Saturday. The result allowed Gdynia team to leave the lower zone of Polish championship’s classification.

The home team was the first to create a real danger when captain Szymanski’s shot from long distance hit the post in the 25th minute. Keeper Steinbors would have no chance of reaching the ball.

Nine minutes later, Arka Gdynia could have done much better when Siemaszko, beating the offside trap, appeared isolated in front of Wisla’s keeper. Siemaszko decided to offer the goal to Kolev, but Dzwigala managed to cut the ball allowing keeper Daehne to grab the ball.

Second half full of goals

The goal would come only ten minutes into the second half. Janota served Cvijanovic and Arka’s midfielder passed on Kolev’s header which put Yellow and Blues in the front. Two minutes later, Janota tried to get 0:2 but Daehne was there to avoid the goal.

In the 66th minute, Arka profited from a slow defense of Wisla and could have easily got the 0:2. Janota advanced through Wisla’s defenders and served Kolev for the goal. Uryga, however, avoided Arka’s goal with a crucial action.

Three minutes later, came the unexpected. Substitute Calo crossed to Arka’s box for Maric to try to put the ball away from the box. The ball rebounded in Aankour and went straight to Ricardinho who, only facing Steinbors, scored for the draw.

Arka regained the advantage eight minutes from time when Jankowski successfully headed the ball. When Wisla’s risked everything for the draw, Arka’s quick counterattack under Janota’s lead resulted in a goal by Siemaszko. This happened already in added time, gave the final 1:3 and confirmed Tricity team’s victory.

Gornik Zabrze – Lechia Gdansk

Also on Saturday, in Zabrze, Lechia Gdansk confirmed a good start in Polish championship by getting their second win in a row in Ekstraklasa. White and Greens won 0:2 over Gornik and climbed to the third place in the classification. After five games, only Lech Poznan and Jagiellonia remain over Lechia.

Gdansk’s team only needed 23 minutes to get the lead benefiting from an unfortunate action by Bochniewicz. He put the ball in its own net after a long distance shot by Fila.

Nine minutes later, Lechia amplified the lead. The ball hit the post after a superb free kick by Lipski. Flavio Paixao, however, had no trouble getting his third goal of the season in rebound.

Already losing by two goals, Gornik got closer to Lechia’s goal but, once again, keeper Kuciak was in the right place to save a free kick in the 36th minute. Two minutes later, Haraslin had the chance for the 0:3, but the shot failed the goal.

Second half

In the second half, after Haraslin’s cross that keeper Loska managed to save, Gornik kept trying to score a goal that could give them hopes for a better result. The home team never got what they wanted though. In the 66th minute, Zurkowski shot from a long range for an easy save by Kuciak.

Lechia’s keeper was in action again in the 70th minute after clear a shot by Zurkowski resulting in a poor defense display by Lechia. Seven minutes from time, Angulo tried to beat Kuciak with a header after a corner kick, but Lechia’s keeper avoided the goal once again. The result remained 0:2 until the final whistle.

Upcoming matches

On Friday, Arka Gdynia, now with six points, plays away from home again at Kielce with Korona. Lechia Gdansk will try to get their third win in a row in Ekstraklasa facing bottom-placed Pogon in Szczecin.
