In the 27th round of Lotto Ekstraklasa, Arka Gdynia played a home match against Gornik Leczna. Despite high hopes toward the game, the team from Gdynia lost painfully.

High hopes

Górnik are currently bottom of the Ekstraklasa and keep fighting for survival. Players from Łęczna were well motivated and focused on bringing 3 points back home. Players from Gdynia needed to win in order to keep a safe distance from the relegation zone.

Unexpected problems

Yellow&Blues have been trying their best to rehabilitate after the last two defeats and imposed their style from the beginning of the match. Unexpectedly in 16th minute Górnik scored their first goal after huge misunderstanding between Jałocha and Sołdecki. Arka Gdynia were trying to score and make it at least a draw by the end of the first half but was very inefficient. Górnik on the other hand showed 100% efficiency and scored their second goal in 36th minute.

Arka’s fans could not believe in what they saw but they were hoping that the Yellow&Blues would wake up in the second half and keep the 3 points in Gdynia.

Not good enough

After the break, the hosts set off to make up for the losses but Górnik’s defense was consistently destroying Arka’s attacks. Arka’s defense on the other side had huge problems and was making a lot of mistakes. After one of those mistakes, in 61st minute Górnik scored another goal and Arka were losing 0:3. However, it was not the end of the match. In 73rd minute Dariusz Formella brought Arka’s fans some hope by scoring first goal for Arka Gdynia. Although, the joy was not long as in 80th minute Górnik after a beautiful shot from a free kick scored their 4th goal. Arka kept on trying to reduce the size of failure. This resulted in a goal scored by Josep Barisić in 88th minute. The match ended with the result 2:4.

Uncertain future

Coach Niciński’s experiments with the squad turned out to be terrible. With 30 points Arka is now in 12th place with only 3 points advantage over the relegation zone. There are only 3 matches left to the end of this part of the season, that means a very difficult task for Arka. There will definitely be a lot of emotions to the very end for both players and fans in Gdynia.

Next match in Gdynia Arka are playing this Tuesday – the second semifinal of Polish Cup against Wigry Suwałki. After winning the first match 3:0 Arka has a huge chance to go through to the final of the Polish Cup.
