Arka Gdynia played at home against Piast Gliwice on Friday at 18:00. After the last second drama in the last match Yellow&Blues wanted to rehabilitate themselves and keep the 3 points in Gdynia.
Early goal for Arka Gdynia
Arka’s fans did not have to wait long for the first goal of the match. In 9th minute after a controversial penalty, Mateusz Szwoch scored his 3rd goal for Arka Gdynia in Ekstraklasa. After the goal players from Gdynia surprisingly focused on defending. Piast’s players were leading the game but they were unable to break through Arka’s defense.
Second half
In the beginning of the second half Piast’s coach decided to make a double substitution. Both substitutes gave Piast more energy in the offensive. Piast was attacking and creating many chances to defeat Steinbors (Jalocha has an injury). After the hilarious mistake in the match against Wigry Steinbors he wanted to rehabilitate himself. Thanks to him Arka did not loose the goal after MoĹ‚jta’s shot in 53rd minute. This could have been the most beautiful goal of the season.
The twist
The situation changed in the 73rd minute when Aleksandar Sedlar (Piast) saw the second yellow card. Playing against the 10 men of Piast, Arka began to attack more boldly. Paradoxically, in 88th minute it was Piast that scored the goal. It was Piast first goal since 9th of April. Players from Gdynia once again showed the lack of concentration and just like against Wisla they lost points in the closing minutes of the match.
Press conference
At the press conference after the match coach Ojrzynski said: “I say good evening but it was not a good evening for us. Just like last week we had three points at our fingertips but we failed again. The difference was that this time we played with the advantage of one player but it was not visible. We played too defensive and football is brutal, which we experienced today again.”
Next Game
Next match in Ekstraklasa Arka are playing in Cracow against Cracovia on 8th of May, and on 12th of May Arka Gdynia is playing in Gdynia against Gornik Leczna. But first on 2nd of May Arka will face Lech Poznan at the National Stadium in Warsaw in the Final of the Polish Cup. Over 10 000 fans from Gdynia bought tickets for that match, will they come home from Warsaw with the cup?
