Arka Gdynia gets one step closer to relegation before facing Lechia

With a 0:2 defeat at home against Slask Wroclaw, Arka Gdynia got their 11th game without a win. Labojko gave the advantage to Slask in the second half and, in dying minutes of the match, substitute Tarasovs “betrayed” his keeper in Latvian team scoring the 0:2.

Difficult situation in Gdynia

Arka Gdynia got its sixth defeat in seven games after a 0:2 loss at home to Slask Wroclaw. The defeat places Gdynia’s team, without a win in the last 11 games, only two points from the relegation zone.

The home team got their first scare in the game in the fourth minute when Olczyk tripped Gaska inside the box. However, with the help of VAR, the referee cancelled his own decision after spotting a handball by Chrapek seconds before. The situation that Zbigniew Dobrynin hadn’t noticed.

Ten minutes later, Maczynski tried the goal for Slask from far in a free kick that led Steinbors to a great save to corner. In the 44th minute, Gaska created the sensation of a goal but the shot went a little over the bar.

In the dying minutes of the first half, Arka Gdynia had probably its only chance of the first 45 minutes with a shot slightly wide by Jankowski after a good pass by Deja.

Second half

In the second half, a blunder by Maric in the 52nd minute almost gave a goal to Slask. Arka’s defender tried to pass to keeper Steinbors but the pass was short. Robak almost got the ball but Steinbors reacted quickly and delayed Wisla’s goal.

Arka still tried to create some danger with Kolev’s header after a Janota’s free kick in the 58th minute, but about one minute later, Slask got the advantage. With a perfect center to goal, Labojko forced Steinbors to a difficult save, where Arka’s keeper touched the ball but to his own net.

In the 74th minute, Arka had another good chance for goal. Jankowski crossed to the box where Siemaszko headed an easy ball to Wisla’s keeper when Kolev, in a much better position, could have done much better. The Bulgarian was not happy that Siemaszko headed the ball.

Three minutes from time, Slask Wroclaw scored its second goal in “Latvian treason”. Igors Tarasovs, that had just come into the game, jumped higher than Arka’s defense beating his Latvian selection mate, keeper Pavels Steinbors, after an effective free kick by Maczynski.

Derby on Tuesday

With this result, Arka Gdynia kept the 14th position and it has only two points more than Wisla Plock, the 15th in the table, on the of two places that mean relegation. Arka Gdynia faces at home leader and rival Lechia Gdansk in search of precious points that will keep them away from the two last places in Ekstraklasa on Tuesday night.
