From time to time, thanks to our cooperation with B&O PRESS PHOTO, Tricity News makes a sneak-peek into one of the world’s best leagues. This time, our friends shared with us some pictures and news about this weekend’s round of the Premier League.
Jan Bednarek in Premier League
Jan Bednarek made his debut for Polish National Football Team on the 4th of September 2017 against Kazakhstan. On the 1st of July 2017 former player of Lech Poznan signed a five-year deal with Southampton. He cost The Saints £5 million. Polish player made his Premier League debut on previous weekend against Chelsea, scoring Southampton’s second goal in a 3–2 defeat. He was also lined up on Thursday against Leicester City. The Foxes started at King Power Stadium without number one Kasper Schmeichel, instead of him played Ben Hamer. Southampton had to fight for 3 points to escape the relegation zone.
Leicester City – Southampton
From the beginning of the game Southampton was showing lack of ideas and low confidence. The visitors made their first attempt on goal in the 18th minute. As a result, Leicester City were the team who controlled the game in the first half. Their efforts however lacked success.
Second half
Southampton showed more intensity in the second half and should have scored when Long’s poke from a close range was blocked by goalkeeper Ben Hamer. Saints’ keeper Alex McCarthy also tipped over Jamie Vardy’s attempt to score as Leicester looked for a win. At the end of the match Jan Bednarek’s team had to settle for a draw which is not the result Southampton would have hoped for in their relegation battle.
The outcome
Jan Bednarek played exceptionally and he put a lot of effort to help his team to keep clean sheet. It was Mark Hughes’ first point he achieved since he became the first team manager. The Saints remain four points from relegation zone and they have to work hard to stay in Premier League.
