From time to time, thanks to our cooperation with B&O PRESS PHOTO, Tricity News makes a sneak-peek into one of the World’s best leagues. This time, our friends shared with us some pictures and news about this weekend’s quarterfinals of FA cup.
Changes in the cup
The FA Cup quarter final. The FA announced last season, that there will be no replay at this stage of the competition. Instead, the match is going to extra-time and penalties to determine a winner on the day.
Chelsea – a favorite with problems
At King Power Stadium former Premier League champions met current champions. In this season Leicester City played against The Blues two times. In Leicester Chelsea won 2 : 1 but at Stamford Bridge the match finished 0 : 0.
Both teams came back from warm-weather Spain. Claude Puel’s spend four days at the training camp in Marbella. Antonio Conte’s Chelsea came back after the Champions League last-16 stage. Barcelona forward Lionel Messi punished an error-ridden display of Chelsea at the Camp Nou in that match.
Leicester City – Chelsea London
On Sunday evening in Leicester both teams were welcomed by “Little beast from the East”, freezing cold, gusty wind and a little bit of snow. Chelsea scored first. Alvaro Morata took Willian’s pass in his stride to beat Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel in composed fashion. This gave Chelsea the advantage just before half-time.
In the second half Jamie Vardy made amends for a poor headed miss when he pounced in a goalmouth scramble for a late equalizer. Chelsea goalkeeper Caballero was not in a good shape overall. Leicester had every right to feel confident ahead of a home quarter-final against opponents who were still hurting from that damaging Champions League defeat. Chelsea however showed a renewed character, resilience and quality to disappoint a typically fervent home support.
Winning goal was scored by Pedro in the 15th minute of the first half extra time. In the second half of extra time, Chelsea could score the third goal. The ball hit the crossbar though.
FA Cup Semi finals
Chelsea won 2:1 and will play against Southampton – who reached the last four by beating Wigan 2:0 earlier on Sunday. This match will take place either on 21st or and 22nd of April at Wembley. Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, who won their respective quarter-finals on Saturday, will contest the second semi final.
